Nominative

The subject of a finite verb is in the nominative. AG 339

“Gallia est omnis divisa in partes tres.” Caesar, BG 1.1
“Tu solebas meas esse aliquid putare nugas.” Catullus 1.3-4
“Quam diu etiam furor iste tuus nos eludet?” Cicero, Catil. 1.1

A predicate nominative follows a copula verb and modifies the subject, or is in apposition to the subject. AG 283-284

“Apud Helvetios longe nobilissimus fuit et ditissimus Orgetorix.” Caesar, BG 1.2
“Lesbius est pulcher.” Catullus 79.1
“Urbs antiqua fuit Karthago.” Virgil, Aen. 1.12
