θοός (θέω): swift, quick; of night, ‘swift - descending,’ because night in the countries of the Mediterranean follows the setting of the sun more speedily than with us (cf. Od. 2.388); θοαὶ νῆσοι, islands ‘swiftly flitting by’ and sinking in the horizon, Od. 15.299.— Adv., θοῶς.
