EBUROVI´CES
Eth.
EBUROVI´CES a Gallic tribe, a branch of the Aulerci. [AULEMCI.] They are mentioned by Caesar (
Caes. Gal. 3.17) with the Lexovii. Pliny (
15.18) speaks of the Aulerci, “qui cognominantur Eburovices, et qui Cenomani.” Ptolemy (
2.8) makes the
Αὐλέρκοι Ἐβουραϊκοί extend from the Ligeris to the Sequana, which is not true. Their chief place was Mediolanum (
Evreux). Their limits correspond to those of the diocese of
Evreux, and they are north of the Carnutes.
