AMBIVA´RETI

Eth. AMBIVA´RETI are mentioned by Caesar (Caes. Gal. 7.75) as “clientes” of the Aedui; and they are mentioned again (7.90). As dependents of the Aedui, they must have lived somewhere near them, but there is no evidence for their exact position. The Ambivareti mentioned by Caesar (Caes. Gal. 4.9) were a people near the Mosa (Maas). As the two names are evidently the same, it is probable that there is some error in one of the names; for these people on the Mosa could hardly be clientes of the Aedui.
