[355] Medea's passionate appeal forms one of the finest passages in the poem. Our poet is indebted to Hom. (Il. 6) and Eur. (Medea), and has himself been imitated by Virg. (Aen. 4. 305 sqq.), Cat. (64. 132 sqq.), and Ov. (Her. x, xii: Fast. 3. 471 sqq.: Met. 8. 108 sqq.).
