ἀμφ̓ ἅλα: about the sea, i.e. on the shore between the promontories Sigeium and Rhoeteium. Until now they had fought on the plain, far from the ships; cf. Achilles's words, “ὔφρα δ̓ ἐγὼ μετ̓ Ἀχαιοῖσιν πολέμιζον”, | “οὐκ ἐθέλεσκε μάχην ἀπὸ τείχεος ὀρνύμεν Ἕκτωρ Ι” 352 f. as long as I was fighting among the Achaeans, Hector was not willing to rouse the battle away from the wall (of the city).This text is part of:
