[162] tempus: for caput, as in Prop. 4.9.15 “iacuit pulsus tria tempora ramo Cacus” . The singular rarely occurs in the sense of ‘one of the temples’ except when so modified as to distinguish between them; but cf. Auct. ad Herenn. 4.55 “dubitanti Graccho percutit tempus” .
