λόγων σύστασιν: “sermonum conspirationem” Ficinus, rightly. The passage which follows is an excellent example of Socratic εἰρωνεία. ὑφεκτέον -- δίκην: ‘I must pay the penalty,’ viz. for trying to run away. The natural penalty for running away is of course to have to stay and fight. Herwerden misses the point when he proposes to excise δίκην and understand λόγον. ἔασόν με κτλ. For the metaphor in ἑορτάσαι and ἑστιᾶσθαι see I 354 A note ἑστιᾶσθαι ὑφ᾽ ἑαυτῶν is like our ‘castles in the air.’
