λίμνη. Such artificial pools were common in Egyptian temples; over them the funeral bark was rowed in grand funerals. The pool at Delos, to the north of Apollo's temple, has been discovered in the recent French explorations there (cf. P. W. iv. 2471). H. had clearly been in Delos before his Egyptian visit.
