Tymnes is one of the informants H. mentions by name (Intr. § 22); he seems to have been a Carian half-breed (cf. v. 37. 1). No doubt he was ‘agent’ for the Scythian king in the factory at Olbia. His origin and position are significant as to the nature of H.'s sources.

H.'s semi-personal (ἴστω) address to Anacharsis is very quaint.
