Transference of ‘shrines’ of this kind is represented on the monuments, both on men's shoulders and (as H. says) on ‘four-wheeled wagons’. Erman (E. pp. 278-9) quotes a picture from a grave at Thebes, commemorating the return to life of Osiris, in which the ceremony is followed by a battle (πληγήν) as here; cf., for similar car-battles in north-west India, J. R. A. S., 1884, p. 29.
