ἀποτύψωνται: ‘when they have done mourning,’ not ‘beating themselves’, as Macaulay. Cf. 73. 4 ἀποπειρηθῇ for force of ἀπό, and 42. 6, 61. 1 for τύπτονται, but in these places it has an accusative.

τά: i.e. the parts not burned, i.e. legs, rump, &c.
