Ἀμφιτρύων. Had there been in the case of Perseus a reputed mortal father as in the case of Heracles Amphitryon, H. might have assumed the existence of two Perseus' (cf. ii. 43), one son of a god, the other of a mortal.

ἰθαγενέες: by direct descent genuine. H. (cf. ii. 91. 5) accepts the well-known Danaid legend, from the Epic Danais, and the Supplices of Aeschylus.
