ἰχθύες. That fishes migrate to the sea for breeding is of course a fact; to it has been added this strange myth, which Aristotle (de G. A. iii. 5, 755 b 6) rightly calls εὐήθη καὶ τεθρυλημένον and shows to be impossible; γὰρ πόρος διὰ τοῦ στόματος εἰσιὼν εἰς τὴν κοιλίαν φέρει, ἀλλ᾽ οὐκ εἰς τὰς ὑστέρας; he attributes it to Ἡρόδοτος μυθολόγος.
