ἑβδομήκοντα: cf. 89 n. The Aeginetans put only thirty ships in line at Salamis, though they had some others (perhaps twelve) manned (viii. 46 n.). τοὺς ... πρότερον: cf. v. 86. 4. The town of Aegina was besieged (ix. 75). ἀνάγκῃ λαμφθεῖσαι is the historian's, or the Aeginetans', excuse for sending the ships.
