κόσμῳ (cf. ii. 52. 1). ‘They arranged the planks evenly so as to form a flat surface and then fastened them together above by crossbeams’ (cf. ii. 96. 2).

ὕλην: probably brushwood, though Stein (on the ground of κόσμῳ θέντες) construes ‘timber’.
