ὑψοῦ ἐπὶ ψαμάθοις, ὑπὸ δ᾽ ἕρματα μακρὰ τάνυσσαν Il.1. 485.A trench was dug to facilitate the moving; compare “οὐρούς τ ἐξεκάθαιρον”, used of the departing Greeks, Il.2. 153.
