[151] ἀέσαμεν. This aorist form (generally with “α_”, but inf. 490 and in Od.15. 40, 188 with “α^”) may be referred to “ἄημι”. From same root “ἀϝ”, we get, by reduplication, “ἰαύω” (“ἰαϝω”), the aorist from which (without retaining reduplication) may be “ἄεσα”. The meaning of the word is ‘rested,’ whether the notion of sleep be included or not. Schol. E. H. M. Q. “τὸ ἀέσαμεν οὐκ ἐκοιμήθημεν, ἀλλ᾽ ἐπνεύσαμεν” [al. “ἀνεπνεύσαμεν]. λέγει δὲ καὶ ἀνάπνευσιν τὴν μικρὰν τῶν κακῶν παραμυθίαν” ( Il.11. 801). χαλεπά, because of their divergent views.
