[328] πηδῷ, ‘with the oar-blade;’ cp “πηδάλιον”. Perhaps the word is connected with “πηδᾶν”, because the oarblade seems to spring from the water at the end of the stroke; we may compare “ἁλία χερσὶ παραπτομένα θρώσκει πλάταSoph. O. C.716.
