[8] ὁρμαθοῦ, with ἀποπέσῃσιν, ‘drops off the chain,’ sc. of bats that are clinging together. ἐκ πέτρης ‘from the rock,’ so as to lose hold on the rock, to which the cluster of bats was attached.

ἀνά τ᾽ ἀλλήλῃσιν ἔχονται is a paratactic addition to the picture given by ὁρμαθοῦ: ‘(the cluster), in which they cling to one another.’
