[35] ἐνευναίων may be masc., ‘sleepers in the bed,’ or neut., ‘bed-trappings.’ The latter sense is supported by 14. 51 “ἐνεύναιον” (sc. “δέρμα”); but it does not suit this context nearly so well. The reading “χήτει ἐνευναίῳ”, attributed by Eust. to ‘the ancients’ (viz. Aristarchus?), might mean ‘from want within the bed.’ But the phrase is more like Aeschylus than Homer. For κεῖται cp. “καταθήσει” in l. 45.
