[544] δήομεν. This word is connected with root “δα”, the long stem answering to “δα^” (“ς”) in “δέδαεν”, etc. (See Monro, H. G. § 80, who shows that we have here a subjunctive form.) Some MSS. write “δῄομεν, δῄεις” and “δῄει”, which variation may have arisen, as La Roche suggests, from a confusion on the part of the transcriber between “δήω” and “δηιόω”. With ἄνυσις cp. Il.2. 347; 4.56; and for a similar use of “πρῆξις Il.24. 524.
