[190] Ποιάντιον, ‘of Poeas.’ This method of expressing the patronymic is quoted as among the Homeric Aeolisms. ‘Patronymica in “-ειδης” et “-ιων” cadentia aliena fere sunt ab Aeolici sermonis consuetudine. Eorum loco Aeoles uti solent adiectivis possessivis in “-ιος” terminatis, sicut Romani in nominibus gentiliciis. Eiusmodi patronymica ita Homerus in usum suum convertit, ut plerumque cum nomine “υἱός” coniuncta genitivi quasi munere fungantur.
