[114] ἐξ εὐηγεσίης ‘from his good leading’: the word only occurs here. The use of “ἐξ” with an abstract word is hardly Homeric: H. G. § 229, 5. The other reading εὐεργεσίης gives us a word that is otherwise known; but the sense is less satisfactory. Toup's conjecture εὐηγρεσίης ‘good sport’ is not more than plausible.
