[593] σάκε᾽ ὤμοισι κλίναντες indicates the characteristic attitude of the Mykenaean warrior as he crouches on one knee, the shield being set with its lower edge on the ground, and the upper leaning against the shoulder, while the spears are sloped forwards. See 13.488, 22.4. It is the attitude of caution and defence.
