[543] Bentley and Heyne, followed by Nauck and others, consider the last two lines of the book as spurious. The words ἤματι κείνων, in combination with the plupf. τέταντο, certainly look as though they belonged to the end, not to the beginning of a day's fighting, and may therefore have been a rhapsodist's ‘tag,’ meant to wind up the end of a day's recitation, and omitted when “Δ” was immediately followed by P. Knight E. suspects 539-42 as well.
