[436] La R. considers that ὑπό goes with δουρί, αὐτοῦ being simply ‘his,’ comparing “ἐμῶι ὑπὸ δουρὶ δαμῆναι5.653, etc. But this use of “αὐτοῦ” as a simple possess. gen. is very rare (see 16.405), and it is more natural to construe ‘by him with his spear.’
