[857] “ὅτι κατὰ τὰ κοῖλα μέρη ἐζώννυντο τὴν μίτραν: καί ἐστι διδασκαλικὸς ὁ τόπος” (i.e. ‘this is the locus classicus ’). For the nature of the “μίτρη” see App. For β. μίτρην of MSS. Ar. read “μίτρηι”: both cases appear to be equally Homeric; see 10.77, 14.181.
