[528] τάμνοντ᾽ἀμφί, cut off, intercepted; as Od. 11.402βοῦς περιταμνόμενον ἠδ᾽ οἰῶν πώεα καλά”, Hymn. Merc. 74 “πεντήκοντ᾽ ἀγέλης ἀπετάμνετο βοῦς ἐριμύκους. ἀμφί” implies interception by an attack on both sides (of the path to the watering-place?) as “περί” in “λ” implies surrounding. For πώεα καλά Zen. had “πῶυ μέγ᾽ οἰῶν”, and therefore clearly omitted 529. Fick follows him in order to avoid the ‘Ionism’ ἀργεννῶν for -“άων”.
