[453] ἐπιβλ́ης, evidently a long beam running horizontally through a hole in one door-post, so that it could be thrust across the door into a suitable hole in the other post. The gate in the fortifications has two such bolts, there called “ὀχῆες”, see 446, and on 12.456.
