[78] περιάγνυται, the metaphor is not very clear; it recurs in Scut. Her. 348 “περὶ δέ σφισιν ἄγνυτο ἠχώ”. Perhaps it comes from the breaking of the wave upon the beach, cf. “κύματος ἀγή,Ap. Rhod.i. 554 . “ὄψ” must be supplied from the preceding line.
