[97] In the sense embracingἀμφιβαλεῖν” elsewhere always has “χεῖρας”, which has to be supplied here. ἀλλ́ηλους is best taken with it as governed by the preposition (like “ἀμφιχυθεὶς πατέρ᾽ ἐσθλόν,Od. 16.214), though the division of the line would prima facie refer it to “τεταρπώμεσθα”. But this mid. aor. is never elsewhere used transitively.
