[37] Killa is placed by Strabo on the gulf of Adramytteion, near Thebe. The historical Chryse was on the west coast of the Troad, though others, hard put to it to explain why Chryseis was captured at Thebe (see 366), knew of a Chryse close to Killa, afterwards deserted (Strabo pp. 604, 612-3). The alternative explanation was that she was on a visit to relatives at Thebe. Cf. note on 184. ἀμφιβέβηκας, standest round about, as protecting deity, like a warrior protecting a fallen friend, e.g. 17.4. Cf. Aisch. Sept. 174 “ἰὼ φίλοι δαίμονες λυτήριοι ἀμφιβάντες πόλιν” .
