[560] For the taking of Asteropaios' armour see Od. 21.183. Nothing was said there, however, as to his wearing a breastplate, though if he had one he must have been wounded through it with a sword (180). The whole episode of the Games seems therefore to belong to the period when the corslet had come to be an essential part of the panoply (App. B, iii.).
