[603] 603 = 20.98. πάρα εἷς: the hiatus here can hardly be right; van Herw. conj. “πάρ᾽ ἄρ᾽ εἷς”, Bentley “πάρα τίς γε” (Brandreth “τίς τε”), Nauck “πάρ᾽ ἕεις”, a form which is found in Hesiod Theog. 145, but is evidently only a false case of ‘Epic diectasis.’ The simplest change would be “πάρ᾽ ἰός γε”: “ἰῶι” is found in 6.422 and is now recognised as a genuine form beside “ἰῆς, ἰῆι, ἴαν”. There is no reason why the nom. should not have been used, and the rarity of it would explain the corruption.
