[127] The use of the two particles ἄν κεν in immediate sequence is found also in Od. 9.334; in the four other cases where they occur in the same clause they are separated at least by “μέν” (see on 11.187). Hence Brandreth suggested “οὔτ᾽ ἄρ κεν” here. The variant “οὐδέ” (“οὔτε”) “κεν” passes the limits of permissible ictus lengthening. “ὀνόσαιτο μετελθών,4.539.
