[688] γνώηι, the subj. indicates that the discovery of Priam is spoken of as something positively expected, whereas the chance of ransom afterwards is merely a possibility; a rhetorical touch to arouse Priam's alarm. (“γνοίη” is obviously excluded by “γνώωσι”.)
