[509] It is not of course quite exact to say that Prayers hear a man's prayers; what is meant is that they, as representatives of the heavenly powers, ensure a man's prayers being heard. εὐχομένοιο seems best to give the sense whenever he prays. The vulg. “εὐξαμένοιο” is, however, more usual, cf. 1.381, 453, 16.236, 531, Od. 21.211. “εὐχομένοιο” generally means boasting, but there is no reason why it should be confined to this sense.
