[277] Observe how Agamemnon, as usual, gives way to despondency at the first reverse, and thinks only of danger to the ships, although he has hitherto been driving the Trojans right up to their city. Cf. 9.27, 14.65-80. The variant “περ” for μέν is more forcible, and is very likely right.
