[389] 389-93 = 16.482-86. ἀχερωΐς, said to be the “λεύκη” or white poplar (see Pausanias v. 14. 2). This is the finest tree which grows in modern Greece. Popular etymologists explained that Herakles had brought it from the river Acheron. For the mythology connected with it see Frazer on Paus.v. 5. 5.
