[147] It is most natural to take τόδε as agreeing with ἄχος, ‘this is the sore grief.’ It is, however, possible to understand it as an accusative anticipating the content of the following clause, ‘It is in respect of this that great grief comes upon me, namely, that,’ etc. For this use of the pronoun cf. 5.827τό γε”, and 6.523τὸ δέ”.
