[122] Cf. Od. 18.105 “ἐνταυθοῖ νῦν ἧσο”: the whole passage Od. 18.101-05 resembles this in tone. σ᾽ is perhaps best taken as = “σοι”. But the sequence of accusatives “σε ὠτειλὴν αἷμα”, though unusual, is not indefensible; “σε ὠτειλήν” may be a ‘wholeand-part’ construction, “ὠτειλὴν αἷμα” acc. of ‘near and remote object,’ as Od. 6.224 “χρόα ϝίζετο δῖος Ὀδυσσεὺς ἅλμην”. The gen. “ὠτειλῆς”, though found in most MSS., is probably only a correction; superficially it looks easier, but it is less idiomatic.
