[715] For the use of the accusative with ὑποστῆναι cf. 2.286, Od. 10.483; and see H. G. § 136 (3). τόν is here demonstrative, that. We do not hear elsewhere of any such promise made by the goddesses to Menelaos. It is probably from the story of the Judgment of Paris.
