[540] ὄζος Ἄρηος, commonly expl. scion of Ares, cf. “ἔρνοςsprout, thence child, Pind. and Trag.; so “Θησείδα ὄζω ἈθηνῶνEur. Hec. 125.But it is far more probably explained by Schulze (Q. E. p. 498) as companion, follower (“ὀ-” = “ἅμα”, cf. on 765, “-ζ-” = “σδ-”, *sed, root of “ὁδός”: cf. Hesych. “ὀζεία: θεράπεια, ἄοζοι: ὑπηρέται”).
