[453] μισγάγκειαν, watersmeet, place where two valleys (“ἄγκεα”) join their streams (“ἅπ. λεγ.”). Hentze remarks that the picture would be clearer if 454 stood before 453. ὄβριμον: apparently from “βρι-” of “βρί-θ-ω, βριαρός, βριήπυος” (13.521), “βαρύς”, etc.; see “βρῖ” in L. and Others S. refer it to “ὕβρις”. In any case the first “μ” of the constantly recurring variant “ὄμβριμος” seems to have no justification. The unusual preponderance of MSS. in its favour here is due to the idea that in this passage it means rain-water (“ὄμβρος”). Cf. 3.357.
