[112] παχνοῦται, lit. is chilled, frozen; so Hes. Opp. 360 “ἐπάχνωσεν φίλον ἦτορ”, Aisch. Cho. 83 “πένθεσιν παχνουμένη”. It is the opposite of “ἰαίνεσθαι” (23.598). δὲ ἔβη has MS. authority, and has been independently conjectured; the vulg. “δέ τ᾽” is a mere stopgap to sa<*>e the hiatus.
