[334] ὀπάζων: cf. 8.341ὧς Ἕκτωρ ὤπαζε κάρη κομόωντας Ἀχαιούς”, and 17.462. The word seems to be closely conn. with “ἕπειν” (compare the use of “ἐφέπειν”), and means pressing hard. It recurs in this sense in the metaphorical phrase “γῆρας ὀπάζει8.103, 4.321; else it is always causal, ‘to cause to attend upon,’ i.e. to attach to.
