[176] Compare 21.19. It is not to be supposed that by the word κακά the poet means to pass any ethical criticism on his Achilles. Such a judgment would be quite against the Epic style (see note on 20.463). The word means only that what he did was ill work for his victims; in 7.478 “κακὰ μήδετο μητίετα Ζεύς” there is certainly no moral condemnation of Zeus.
