[385] καμάτωι καὶ ἱδρῶι, with the sweat of toil, hendiadys. But even so the idea of ‘bespattered with sweat’ is a curious one, and as Monro remarks, ‘in other places where the phrase recurs (13.711, 17.745) “κάματος” is evidently the important word’; cf. also “καμάτωι ἀδηκότες ἠδὲ καὶ ὕπνωι10.98.
