[334] It will be seen that Zen. (supra) left out the sword, perhaps on the ground that Paris, unlike Menelaos, does not use it in the sequel. It is more natural too that the ponderous shield should be taken last of all. The word τερσανόεσσαν is not known elsewhere; it may be a mistake of the MS. arising from a confusion between “τερμιόεσσαν” (see 16.803) and “θυσανόεσσαν”, the latter being, however, only applied elsewhere to the aegis.
